Windermere Lake Cruises is heading to India this month to encourage more tourists from both Asia and the Middle East to visit the Lake District, Cumbria and help boost the local economy. It’s travelling to Bangalore (also known as Bengaluru) to meet tour operators and highlight the beauty of our region and England’s longest lake.

Jennifer Cormack, Sales and Marketing Director for Windermere Lake Cruises, says: “This is a significant and important step in securing our vibrant visitor economy going forward.

“Visitors from Asia and the Middle East are very important to our economy as they spend more on average than other visitors to the UK. While international travel here is recovering since the pandemic we need to build on that recovery.”

During the visit, Windermere Lake Cruises will meet leisure buyers from India, China, Japan, South Korea, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. The trip comes at the end of a busy year for Windermere Lake Cruises which has already visited Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Europe.

The Destination Britain trip to India has been organised by the national tourism agency VisitBritain and takes place from November 20 – 22. Cumbria Tourism will also be joining the trade mission.

Jennifer Cormack says: “This latest trade mission is part of our continuing efforts to encourage international visitors to add the English Lake District to their travel itineraries.

“I’m finding from experience that we get an incredible reaction from travel agents in cities across the globe.

“While traditionally their travel itineraries have featured only London and Edinburgh they are now adding the English Lake District. That’s great news for the future of our visitor economy on which so many livelihoods depend.
