Major recruitment drive at leading tourist attraction
Published: 28th February 2014
A major recruitment drive has got underway at Windermere Lake Cruises, with around 75 jobs on offer ahead of the 2014 peak summer holiday season.
With around 1.25 million passenger journeys every year, the company is officially one of the country’s top ten ‘paid for’ visitor attractions according to the national tourist board VisitEngland. During the summer months, staff numbers need to double to approximately 150 staff to cope with the huge demand from passengers wanting to experience England’s longest lake on a Windermere Lake Cruise.
The search is now on to fill a variety of customer service roles at Lakeside, Bowness and Ambleside. The fixed-term contracts include crew to work on board the company’s 16 vessels, made up of three historic steamers, as well as a fleet of ‘waterbuses’ and traditional wooden launches. Other positions available over the busy April-November period range from staff for ticket offices, cafes, shops and information centres to drivers for the Bowness ‘road train’.
HR Manager at Windermere Lake Cruises, Ian Wilkinson, says, “We run a complex operation seven days a week throughout the year, so it’s important we get the right people in place to ensure our visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience on one of the country’s most iconic lakes. Windermere Lake Cruises offers full training to new recruits, not to mention some of the best views you are likely to find anywhere!”
